| The Glen Lake/Crystal River area is blessed with the majestic Sleeping Bear Dunes to the west, high water quality and hardwood forests along its ridgelines. This area is indeed one of the most beautiful and pure parts of the county, the state and undoubtedly our country as a whole.
The overall health of the Glen Lake/Crystal River watershed is remarkably high, although development pressure threatens to degrade the function of the land necessary to maintain the high water quality.
We have already achieved so much in this area with the permanent protection of the Crystal River in November 2004 (see related articles on our news page.) We have also secured conservation easements in and around Glen Arbor, helping to protect the landscape. Also, in conjunction with the Glen Lake Association, we have developed a watershed management plan that has been approved by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, which will allow stakeholders to apply for Clean Michigan Initiative funds to maintain and improve this sensitive watershed. But there is still much to do.
Contributions to the Glen Arbor Area Fund will be used for land protection projects around Glen Arbor, Glen Lake and the Crystal River. Donations earmarked to help complete our Crystal River Project are also distributed from this To make a donation to this fund, click here. | | | |
