The unique and special beauty of Lime Lake

Why Leelanau?  Because there is a unique and special beauty here unlike any other place. This photo was taken at Lime Lake (near Maple City.)  My family has been vacationing there for 25 years and I find myself taking more or less that same shot just about every year!

The beauty of the dunes

Ten years ago we decided to rent a cottage on Sleeping Bear Bay for a four-generation, week-long vacation. We were hooked! That visit eventually led to the purchase of a place at The Homestead on the beach. Activities include swimming, sailing, kayaking, biking, and skiing. But by far the most time is spent hiking the trails and beaches in the Park, with Sleeping Bear Point one of our favorite spots. Leelanau County in general and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in particular are VERY special places.

Leelanau involves the senses

For me, so much about Leelanau involves the senses.  I look at this photo and I hear the gulls, smell the water, feel the sun on my shoulders, and wish for a breeze!
