Lake Michigan

My husband and I relished every funky change of weather-sun, rain, sleet, high winds, more sun, chilly to downright cold to warming up again. He loves to just sit on our deck and "breathe in that north woods air" — it is heaven to him to arrive on the Leelanau Peninsula, no matter the season or time of day. It's replenishing to those of us who aren't lucky enough to live up there, to be there even for just a few days.

Summer barns

One of the highlights of the summer season in the Land of Delight is the weekly trip to our Customer Supported Agriculture (CSA) farm. The trip is special for three reasons: We get to see Farmer Jim, Farmer Judy of Sweeter Song and our friends. We collect our "share" of seasonal fruits and vegetables with a dozen eggs, a pound of coffee or a chicken tossed in for good measure. Finally, the trip to the CSA farm is another excuse to take a drive down French Road toward Cedar and take in the sweeping landscapes and the majestic barns that make one’s shutter finger twitch. There will be another one right over the hill or around the corner. "Look at that one!!"

Red barn in winter frock

By Leelanau Conservancy at 1:29 pm on Wednesday, December 3, 2008

We love Leelanau County for its beauty. There are so many different types of scenery that just say…….wow! A sunset, mist over a lake, a spider's web, a river, the beaches. It just IS Leelanau!

Swede Road may be off the beaten track, but it is special this time of year.
