I am a science teacher who lives with my family in Ann Arbor. In the 70's I was a counselor and lived at Camp Innisfree (now Camp Kohahna, I think), on Port Oneida Rd. I have loved the Leelanau Peninsula since I was a child, and have spent many a happy day camping, biking, birding, and shooting photos there (also eating cherry pie at Cherry Republic and eating burgers and drinking beer at the Friendly Tavern in Empire!).
    For many years, my friends and I camped out over New Years at D. H.
Day. This tradition has now moved to the Platte River Campground (in Benzie County), because D.H. Day is closed in the winter.
    One of my many memorable Leelanau experiences was biking from the Empire Public Campground, at the south end of the county, to the tip of the point and back in one day! I rode a mountain bike, and because of meandering, my distance total at the end of the day was 117 miles.

When my brother and I were kids our family spent summer vacations in one of the Peppler's cottges on Glen Lake. Sleeping Bear Dunes and the Glen Lake area of Leeanau County are my favorite places in Michigan.
