Leelanau Cherry Blossom Tour day

By Leelanau Conservancy at 9:00 am on Monday, May 19, 2008

Did you go on the Leelanau Cherry Blossom Tour? The day was blessed with wonderful sunshine and fresh cherry tree blossoms. Congratulations to the event sponsors (the Leelanau Conservancy being one) for a splendid event. The picture is of Don Gregory co-owner of the Cherry Bay Orchards. Mr. Gregory described the techniques and challenges that come with raising and harvesting cherries. Picture perfect day!

This picture was taken at the New Mission Organics Farm, just north of Omena, which is owned by friends. Nothing prettier than a cherry blossom!

Dutchman's-breeches or Squirrel-corn?

By Leelanau Conservancy at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 13, 2008

Squirrel-cornDutchman\'s-breeches

One of the many things we look forward to in Leelanau are the spring flowers. About this time each year my wife and I pick up the "In Bloom" flower list from the Park Headquarters and hike the Empire Bluff trail. The flowers are great this year! Do you know your flowers? Can you tell a Dutchman's breeches from a Squirrel-corn flower? Having them growing side-by-side (and a flower book in hand) made our hike this year very satisfying.
