How often do you see a Click Beetle?

By Leelanau Conservancy at 9:30 am on Tuesday, July 22, 2008

I have lived in Leelanau County for 29 years and I have only found two of these beetles. It is called a Click Beetle. These beetles make a distinctive clicking sound that is just as noticable, if not more, than that of the sound that cricket makes. The first Click beetle I found was in the woods. I followed its clicking sound until I found it. This Click Beetle I found resting on my car.

The Click Beetle is important to Leelanau County because it represents an organism that exists in Leelanau County. I think it is a neat beetle because it has unusual markings and for the sounds it makes. If you have ever heard an electrict fence making a clicking sound that is what a click beetle sounds like. You can see ants, mosquitos, and butterflies everyday, but how often do you see a Click Beetle?
