This photo was taken while enjoying the "Flight over Leelanau" auction item that I bid on and won at the 2006 Leelanau Conservancy picnic. John Herrold of Cedar graciously hosted my 87-year-old father and I in his Cessna 172 to view the fall colors. My Dad, a former WWII Navy pilot, still talks about taking off from John's private airfield and being briefed on how to "avoid" any deer coming on the runway. That's what we like about Leelanau and what the Conservancy does.

At the end of Lake Street in Glen Arbor….bluer than any Carribean resort our sweet water sea, Lake Michigan. (The photo was taken by my friend Rob Ziebell.)

We have been coming up to the Leelanau since 1976 when we would stay at the Barrett's Cottage on Good Harbor Bay in the summer. This was when the lake was very high, the beaches were eroding and houses were actually falling into the lake. I guess it would have been a good time to buy.
Leelanau is a place we continue to enjoy in all four seasons now. Things have changed over the years and yet it still seems timeless. One timeless feature is the DH Day Farm Barns, which never seem to change. We love this photo that our daughter, Kate, took the summer of 2006.
